This entry is for the first print run of v2 edition of DeckONE playing cards which can be distinguished by roman numerals "II" visible on the tuck flap. First print run of v2 edition has "II" on the tuck flap. Quote from Director of Operations at Theory11, Lyle Borders: Two versions, across three different printings. Printing #1 did not have the aged, worn look that the current edition does. People carried these decks in their pockets, and eventually they would wear down and develop a really cool aged look. V2 emulated that look. V2 had 2 printings. The III indicates the 3rd printing, which is a V2 printing. II and III are essentially identical other than that small change which indicates the printing. For three years, at Joker and the Thief, we have reviewed and handled hundreds of custom designer playing cards from around the world. We have seen absolute gems and absolute rubbish, innovation and repetition, various design trends, decks that handle spectacularly and decks that handle poorly. What we have observed is a vast plethora of combinations, leading to either quality products or poor ones. We believe that a certain balance needs to be achieved in order to create a great deck of cards. Now we are delighted to introduce to you, a collaborative project with Pedro Oyarbide, 6 months in the making - Joker and the Thief Playing Cards.

Initial release tuck boxes featured embossing and gold foil highlights not seen in subsequent printings.

Funded as a Kickstarter project on February 22, 2014 with $69,452 NZD (just over $50k USD) pledged from 1,109 backers, this was a set of two decks consisting of the First Edition (standard blue tuck unlimited deck) and Grail (white tuck limited edition of 2,500 decks), plus 20 very limited commemorative sets in wooden boxes and an uncut version. Both tucks were embossed and hot stamped with gold foil with a custom seal and featured the intricately designed card back image on the back of the tuck.

A number of additional add-ons including shirts, prints, collector box, coin, poster, etc were also available.

Designed by Rick Davidson of New Zealand, this deck featured a re-interpretation of the original 15th century face cards from Rouen, France that was the basis for the current standard courts now used on so many common playing card decks. Rick carefully studied many historic cards and prints from this time period (http://originscards.com/archive/) to create his new interpretations, but also occasionally brought in modern day inspirations for facial features, including Charlize Theron for the Queen of Clubs.

The cards were printed on casino quality Bee stock with a magic finish from USPCC with special Q1 quality production. In addition, magician Lee Asher, helped design the gaff card included with the deck that featured the King of Spades and Queen of Hearts.

The tuck has a modified face design containing stylized 'SM' instead of the original piece of art. Only first edition box set decks (pictured here) come with the custom seal. Further reprints are without seal. Court cards are not the original Smoke&Mirrors courts but standard USPCC court cards. Cards are printed on a cream stock similar to the Vintage Plaid decks also by D&D.

Killer Bees are the mutant hybrid of timid European honey bees and their African cousins.  Like all superhero stories, the Killers were introduced to Brazil by mad scientists to help re-populate their diminishing Bee population.  But no-one could contain them... In 1957, 26 swarms escaped quarantine and declared war on the western hemisphere.  Danger lurking in the skies, these villains will stalk their victims for up to 1/2 a mile..  We wanted to capture the darker bodies of these cold-face killers in our deck. Creating a harsh black back with toxic-waste yellow honeycomb spilt on the back.  The black faces display custom pips and hold a sinister simplicity. Like something you'd expect to see on a discarded barrel of methylamine.  Killer Bees are the result of an unsanctioned lab experiment when toxic-waste spilled into a delicate hive of Honey Bees.
