Funded as a Kickstarter project on December 18, 2014 with $35,377 pledged from 633 backers, this was a set of two decks (Feudal Ninja & Feudal Samurai), each of them in Special Edition tuck, plus a Bushido Challenge OCR deck for a total of 5 decks. Funded as a Kickstarter project on March 19, 2015 with kr462,035 (Swedish Krona, which is about $57k USD) pledged from 1,015 backers, this was the Kickstarter attempt at funding this project after the failed CardLauncher (cardlauncher.com) platform attempt, where that platform has since been abandoned.  In that process an earlier protoype (V.01) was created as a prototype and also as a promotional deck for CardLauncher itself which had 55 cards with black and white courts, different tuck-box, different aces, and was printed by MakePlayingCards in 525 units. 

For this project the deck was revised with new and modified face cards, back and tuck and was available in Bicycle branded, unbranded, plus a special Crown Edition hand created tuckcase with the same size and face cards.  It was printed by USPCC on Bicycle Stock with 56 cars including 3 jokers and a gaff card with a custom seal and embossed tuck used on both decks.  The deck as also available as an add-on in uncut format.  In addition, mini and micro formats were available as gifts with larger sized tiers which were printed by MPC (MakePlayingCards.com).

There is no specific theme in this deck, it´s quite eclectic and I let my fantasy run when I illustrated the courts. The diamonds have clearly an Egyptian resemblance, but overall they belong to a parallel world. There is a thing that connects all the court cards: the text circling the background is a part of the Aeneid, a Latin epic poem written by Virgil between 29 and 19 BC, that tells the legendary story of Aeneas, a Trojan who traveled to Italy, where he became the ancestor of the Romans.

Designed by Ade Suryana and produced by Kardify Projects, this deck features the theme of Aquila (Latin for eagle) which was inspired by the Garuda Wisnu Kencana in Bali, Indonesia, that is a large mythical bird with eagle-like features has been featured in many cultural and religious mythologies. Hard to find deck that was only released to club 808 members.

The Bicycle Club 808 Playing Cards are the intro cards exclusive to the newly launched "VIP" or membership fan club by USPCC/Bicycle of the same name. The club launched January 1, 2013 and gives members a "back stage pass" to exclusive content and limited edition playing cards from USPCC/Bicycle. The Bicycle Club 808 can only be acquired at the time of the membership purchase. It is not sold anywhere else on the site, even to members of 808.

The deck comes with 56 cards including a double back and ad card. The design was done by designers Emily Webb and Ronny Young. The tuck case design is black and white that pulls in many elements from the Bicycle brand.

Old or New? Yes!

A few years ago when we started to get the itch to create modern versions of decks from the golden age of playing cards (1860-1920) our first stop was at the great temple for all things related to playing card collecting, Tom and Judy Dawson’s place in Toronto.

Among a number of really cool and rare decks offered to us was this amazing deck called Exquisite. The Dawson’s told us that this deck from about 1895 or so and produced by the Union Playing Card Company of New York was, as far as they knew, a one of kind. No other example had ever turned up anywhere.

The sideways tuck was love at first sight!

The back design that Union used wasn’t as much fun so we decided to replace it with a really beautiful back that had also originally come from the Art Nouveau period.

What we have now is the result of that day with Tom and Judy (and many many other great days with them!), Asi Wind’s great eye in picking out the back design and Lawrence Sullivan’s help in getting the factory that made the Legends (a true instant classic) to make our sideways tuck.
