Inspired by the Greek river Styx and the Styx Dead Head Hawk Moth, comes the Bicycle Styx Playing Cards. Dominus illustrates the damaging physical and psychological effects of political ambition on those who seek to gain power through activities related to the underworld and dark magic. Dominus seek to represent light and darkness with a mirrored 2-deck theme, Divinus and Obscura.

Artwork is created by Noah Whippie - a comic book artist, graphic designer and illustrator. Noah is also an amateur card magician, which means understanding the importance of a well-designed deck. This deck is not his first. He has already published Bicycle Coffin Fodder deck.

Each of the suits represents a different caste of society. The hearts are the clergy, diamonds - merchants, clubs - military, and spades - the working class. That concept is carried over substituting artisans for working class, giving the deck the significance of a "dark zodiac" of sorts. Each of the assets were hand illustrated and then digitally compiled to give it a more traditional feel. The deck reads like a 54-page occult manuscript steeped in otherworldly dark aesthetics.

With an intense focus on Gothic surrealism. The glyphs or "letters" that was used in the designs are stylized "demonic calligraphy", a unique phonetic alphabet - to add character and subtext to the art. The cross symbol is one of Noah’s own design that he often adds to the art as a hidden "second signature" called "the infernal cross". Both decks feature accents of artwork made by applying of metallic silver and golden inks.

The BONE deck was crafted with subdued shades of ivory, giving the figures the look of polished bone, with exquisite gold metallic ink accents and a unique ace of spades.

Created as a pair of decks, Anubis and Osiris, these decks from artist Steve Minty was funded on KickStarter by 2,154 backers who pledged $93,907.  The Anubis deck featured a black tuck and card background, while the Osiris deck used a deep blue tone.  The tucks are with gold foil and embossed with a custom seal, while the cards also have gold foil on the back.

Grotesk Macabre is the evolution of "Grotesque", which was the UC2014 annual deck. Taking this deck as a starting point, I tried to create my own vision of the Underworld. Although a joyful and positive person myself, I had always been attracted to dark themed artwork. I find fascinating how artists throughout the centuries have imagined the world of the dead and how they dealt with the greatest fear of mankind. In Grotesk Macabre I tried to combine the darkest of all themes with the heavy elegance of baroque and the pointy, flamboyant Gothic art.
