The Fyodor Pavlov Tarot will be a complete deck of fully illustrated Major and Minor Arcana cards. Each card has been painstakingly researched and delicately hand-painted with ink and watercolor. The cards will have rounded corners and will be printed on 340 gsm paper. The stars on the backing designs (currently white in the mock-up) will be printed with gold metallic ink. The deck and the guidebook will come packaged in a sturdy lidded box, and the guidebook will be perfectly bound. My deck pays homage to Pamela Colman Smith’s seminal tarot illustrations, and draws inspiration from my own lived trans and queer experience and my personal interpretations of the cards. The result, I hope, is a deck that is accessible, comfortingly familiar, yet welcoming and refreshing to a new generation of diverse querents.

A pack published in the Netherlands (Breda) in 2005 to a design by Cerberus (Colin Peters) showing the actors and consequences of the first (1994-96) and second (1999-2002) Chechen wars. The powerful images were first linocut and then lithographed. The author says "the king, queen and jack are transformed into sinister figures”. The Russian and Chechen leadership are shown on the court cards while some of the queens show the allegorical 'Black Widow' and the 'Soldier's Mother'" The suit signs are printed in muted browns and greys and the backs are a repeat pattern of flowers and skulls. One of the jokers is the artist. The pack consists of 52 cards plus two jokers and two information cards. The date of publication (2005) and the limitation (1000 packs) is noted in the box lid. The pack is slightly larger than usual at 10.5 cm x 6.5 cm.

German deck, dating from around 1940. 52 cards and 2 Jokers. Pips are Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds, Spades. The translation from the front is: Bridge, Rummy, Whist. French Picture (meaning the design on the front of the cards) No 11, 54 cards, Matched back. On the side of the box its says, " Mit Goldecken, meaning with gold corners, though there is no trace of this on the cards. The box is wrapped in a UK tax duty wrapper of C Goodall & Son, the design of which dates to 1940. These cards were made by the Belgium Turnhout-based cardmaker Leonard Biermans, during the Nazi-occupation of Belgium, from May 1940 until September 1944 for the German market. Turnhout was freed from the Nazi's by the Polar Bears Regiment on September 24th. One can immediately see that it's an 'occupation-deck' by the 'Wüst'-star on the box, and that you'll also find on the 7 of hearts. The images on the cards themselves are indeed 'Dutch', and not 'French', so there is some rebellion in these cards against the Nazis. The wrapping of a UK tax paper is unlikely to have been round these, unless they were resold in the UK after the war. The box cover has a sketch of camera lenses and is red, white and blue. There are 52 Pin up pics. The Tuck says "Frederic Enterprises St. Louis, MO" - which is also known as "Novelties Mfg. & Sales Corp, St. Louis, MO".
