Clifton Fred, Tlingit Nation. Clifton was born in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory as a Crow from the great Tlingit Tribe. He began drawing in grade one and taught himself to express his feeling and experiences about his people in a medium of drawing and poetry. He learned to write and draw at the same time, and cannot feel one without the other. He has not pursued any secondary training in art and knows very little of art history other than that the Tlingit have always honored the other lives which have sustained their existence. Their visual designs are the unforgotten language, the contemporary cave drawing, the petrified footprint, that tells of an experience. His personal beliefs and the practice of Native Spirituality leads him to perceive animals as greater being than him, and that his existence is dependent upon their presence and not theirs upon him. He hopes that others with compassion and concern will share his attitude towards life, in all forms. As a Crow of the Tlingit tribe, Clifton Fred’s artistic sensibility reflects the views and achievements of his cultural ancestry. As he puts it “through our art I hope we can remind each other of who we were, what we did, and how we felt. If understanding our beginnings enable us to know our ends, then we may find that all cultures have the same origins and therefore the same destiny. Knowing this we can do nothing other than work together.”

    Constellation Series - Aquarius [Bicycle] FIRST PRINT

    Before releasing the Kickstarter campaign with the 12 constellation decks, Bocopo launched a first print of four of those decks: Capricornus, Sagittarius, Scorpio and Aquarius. The only difference in the tuck case is noticeable in the design frame in the front, that is wider and fits almost the full tuck. Furthermore, the Capricorn deck says Capricornus in the front.

    TIM BISKUP (b. 1967, CA), 'Lucky Stack (The)', 2002 (1st edition) This is a casino quality poker deck of 52 playing cards by artist Tim Biskup. Every card has a terrific reproduction of one of his paintings. The Lucky Stack is sure to bless you with good fortune on your next poker night. Each and every card has a unique face, rendered in Biskup's colorful and whimsical style. Tim Biskup has successfully created a unique and widely recognizable style out of the marriage of comic book illustration, graphic design, and abstractionism. His graphical, multilayered works are precise and colorful while expressing movement and intensity. Biskup's dense, character driven style is inspired by mid-century modern design infused with a healthy dose of punk rock energy. He classifies his style as 'Baroque Modernism' due to its infusion of modernism and ornate, detailed patterns. A main influence of Tim's is Mary Blair, a designer who worked for Walt Disney for 37 years and is best known for her work on the Disney animated films Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan. Since entering the Lowbrow scene in the late 90's, Tim's artwork has evolved at a break-neck pace. He has extended his aesthetic influence into print, media, clothing and many other arenas while creating works for galleries and maintaining focus as a painter. He's collaborated with artists Mark Ryden and Gary Baseman and organized art auctions and exhibitions. His highly sought after original paintings and sculptures have been shown worldwide, including galleries in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, Kyoto and Melbourne.

    My name is Jack Brutus Penny and I’m a nonsense writer, illustrator and English teacher from England, living in Japan. Founder of the publication house JBPPublishing and writer of various works including The Riddle Me Collection and In Truth Stories, I find hoopla in the playful nature of words and whimsy in their imaginative illustrating.

    I am pleased to introduce my latest project - Culturae Animalis.

    Culturae Animalis (the cultural animal/animal culture) is a deck of highly detailed, hand-drawn, luxury art playing cards. It is a deck of stunning art playing cards with a beautiful message of cultural respect and environmental and animal protection. The illustration work alone took over six months, with every card, including pip cards, having its own unique design, and each set of suit court cards being one continuous panoramic scene.

    Most of my written and illustrated work revolves around themes of nature, wildlife and identity, and this project is no different. Each suit depicts one animal type and one culture.

    The Features:

  • A full deck of luxury art playing cards
  • 52 Cards + 2 Jokers all with unique hand-drawn illustrations, most to the edge of the card
  • Poker Size (3.5" X 2.5")
  • Black core (highest quality card core) 330 gsm heavy paper with linen texture (to reduce surface contact for an easier shuffle) and with a gloss finish
  • Gold gilded edges
  • Environmentally friendly and wildlife friendly dedicated approach (see below) including special soy ink and use of 100% paper material (of which 85% is recycled)
  • Custom anti-scratch matte tuck case with hand-drawn artwork and spot gloss (spot UV) details
  • Reaching the initial funding goal will ensure a print run of 1000 decks
  • Through stretch goals to be announced as the project progresses, and through reward tiers, expect additional unique hand-drawn cards, an additional two piece luxury container box, and more
