This new deck drops you right in the middle of a medieval kingdom, which is held under the eternal reign of four royal families, one for each suit. Passione Playing Cards presents Vivaldi: a playing cards project that aims to bring the baroque vibe and the music of the Italian composer and violinist Antonio Vivaldi into a set of masterfully illustrated decks.

In Vivaldi Allegro characters are drawn with a (bowed) string instrument. All court cards are custom, and the colour scheme of each suit matches the mood of a season in order to homage The Four Seasons: one of the most famous masterpieces composed by Antonio Vivaldi.

Printed by USPCC, limited and numbered (only 1000 decks printed each). You can either decide to take the design at its cover (and don’t get us wrong, it is beautiful), or you can allow yourself to be drawn closer, and spend some time discovering the plethora of hidden details lurking in the corners of the illustrations. In fact, there are different forms of the devil’s outline scattered around the faces of the decks, and it requires some close inspection to reveal them. You can say that the Devil is in the details, but the closer you look, the less you see…

7th Annual United Cardists Deck

Unique decks (cold foil), printed by Cartamundi with cold foil on both sides of the cards.

More than one year and a half ago I used cold foil in my first deck printed by Cartamundi. Even now, it is hard to find anything like this on the market. There are some decks printed using one color foil (silver or gold). But it is nearly impossible to find a fully custom deck, with foil on the cards, where other than gold and silver colors are used!

It is hard to design such full of colors decks and then use cold foil. But the result is always fun, that's why I love working with foil! Who does not love shiny and beautiful cards? :)

The aesthetic mainstay of Edo Karuta is the ubiquitous Edomoji, Japanese typographic and lettering styles that were invented and vastly popular during the Edo period. They are primarily used for advertising and branding in the various trades that sprung up during the prosperous epoch before the advent of modern Japan. You can still see many traditional Japanese brands using Edomoji in their marketing efforts. Walk by any Japanese restaurants and you will bound to see banners with Edomoji written on them. In Edo Karuta, these typographical elements are superimposed onto each other to make up interesting and visually arresting motifs, the signature style of MILTZ that we saw in his Shibuya Bluffiti project. You can see these representations most clearly in our card backs.
