The distinguishing feature of the English standard playing card is that the Jacks are lansquenets – mighty warriors or foot soldiers. With such a rich and illustrious subject matter, nothing needed to be added that wasn’t already there. All that was needed was to give each of the characters dimension and expression. Nothing was done to disturb the basic foundation of the deck. Rather, conscious decisions were made to preserve and extend the tradition. Each and every card in the WhiteKnuckle Deck is a unique hand rendering in keeping with the style. Where ambiguity gave way to artistic license, reference was made to its ancestor, the French Rouen design.

According to their website, there is no space between White and Knuckle.

2020 DOTY Award Nominee: 'Best Rookie Deck'

According to Irish legend, if you are lucky enough to capture a Leprechaun you can barter for his treasure. As a child I was fascinated by these little men that stand about as tall as a three-year-old, pinch you if you don’t wear green on St Patrick’s Day and hide gold at the end of rainbows. I have wanted to create a deck based upon this legend for quite a while. One day while talking to my friend and Artist Brad Gabbard or Native Tongue Studio, I ran the idea by him. Over the next several months he designed and redesigned many backs and court card combinations until he was finally able to come up with the perfect combination of both.

We wanted a deck that would appeal to cardists, magicians and collectors. To achieve this goal, we did the following:

Fully Custom St. Patrick’s Day themed court feature along with a beautiful custom AOS and Identical Jokers. Clover pips are used in place of Clubs, as well as unique metallic gold and metallic green suits rather than traditional black and red.

A number of additional secrets are hidden throughout the deck. The more of them you find, the more “lucky” you can make this deck for yourself…

The cards in all editions will be printed by USPCC using the finest traditionally cut crushed stock and finish in the industry. Metallic gold and green inks will feature throughout, including the courts.

This campaign is my attempt to represent Sovereign, which is defined as:

Having supreme rank, power, or authority - supreme; preeminent; indisputable - greatest in degree; utmost or extreme - being above all others in character, importance, excellence.

Each one of the historical kings and queens depicted in this deck are a shadow of what true sovereignty is meant to be. Each one was flawed like us all, but were seen as divinely anointed. The kings and queens were honored as divinity its self. Birth right and elevation, great responsibility and power.

Funded as a Kickstarter project on 05/29/15 with $32,331 pledged from 769 backers, this is the Second Edition of these playing cards based on the art and tradition of Dia de los Muertos, designed by Edgy Brothers and printed by USPCC.  

The interest in the Norse gods has grown substantially in popularity from the emerging archeological finds, television shows, and Marvel movies. We are learning more about the Viking culture every day and people want more! We decided we wanted more as well - a playing card deck featuring a more authentic interpretation of the Norse gods. So, we went digging into the sagas and decided to create a deck based on the famous final battle of Ragnarök. Through that research, we discovered Dr. Jackson Crawford, Instructor of Nordic Studies and Nordic Program Coordinator at the University of Colorado Boulder and author of The Poetic Edda: Stories of the Norse Gods and Heroes and The Saga of the Volsungs: With the Saga of Ragnar Lothbrok and a wealth of knowledge on everything Viking. With Dr. Crawford's personal consulting and guidance for this project we were able to incorporate the correct, strict Old Norse names and descriptions for these mighty figures of legend, depictions so accurate to the original sources that Dr. Crawford has even suggested they be used in an academic environment! We left Africa on foot many millennia ago and traversed the continents. The seas kept pace with our ambitions, and our thirst for exploration guided us forward, or more so survival. Then came the bloody wars, and ages of prosperity and calm, but there was one land that taunted our efforts, that was the sky above.

Great minds like Leonardo designed incredible machines that alas never took to the skies. But our desire unrequited, we paced on, trying to conquer the infallible.

Though finally, we built mechanical marvels to traverse the heavens and beyond, our ancestors dreamt big in their minds and spun great tales of mighty heroes who made air their companion as we do thoughts.

Alis Luminis or "Wings of Light" is a hand-drawn playing card deck in celebration of these mighty heroes from yesteryears.

Wings inspired the tuck box, with the magical, gentle butterfly adorning the back and the mighty Peryton reigning the front. The artist illustrated this beautiful hand-drawn deck, over a period of one and a half years, meticulously crafting it with her dedication and love.

More than one year and a half ago I used cold foil in my first deck printed by Cartamundi. Even now, it is hard to find anything like this on the market. There are some decks printed using one color foil (silver or gold). But it is nearly impossible to find a fully custom deck, with foil on the cards, where other than gold and silver colors are used!

It is hard to design such full of colors decks and then use cold foil. But the result is always fun, that's why I love working with foil! Who does not love shiny and beautiful cards? :)
