Facsimile produced exclusively for Murdoch\'s Gem Shop, Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada. This deck is a reproduction of one of four different decks which were made for the White Pass & Yukon Train Route. There are 52 cards, each featuring an oval photo scene from along the route, and one Table of Distances card with a map of the route on the reverse. Included is a leaflet telling the story of the times. In the year 1898 the greatest gold rush the world has ever seen took place. It has been estimated that 100,000 people worldwide started out, and 30,000 of them actually reached Dawson City. To accomodate the gold seekers White Pass built a 110 mile narrow gauge railaroad, that had been called impossible, through the 3,000 foot high White Pass in the coastal mountains. Two years later a fleet of sternwheel river boats were added to the transportation system and the playing cards reproduced here were provided to the passengers.
