36 card Swiss Jass deck

This deck was a KickStarter project, titled '1883 Murphy Varnish Transformation Playing Cards Restoration' (also known by the tuck name 'The M.V. Card'), it was a transformation style deck and a restoration of the often sought after deck known as The Murphy Varnish Transformation Playing Cards which were originally printed in 1883 by Andrew Dougherty. It was an advertising deck for the Murphy Varnish company from Newark New Jersey, which was founded in 1865 by Franklin Murphy, the former Governor of New Jersey.  

This was a full restoration and not just a simple replica that was printed by USPCC on Bee stock and Linoid finish, there were 3 versions of the deck available.

1: The Standard: A recreation of the original in a modern tuck box. The original had a blank back, but for the standard the front and back of the tuck will be identical.  It also features a tuck seal.

2: The Limited: (Limited to 1883 copies) Using the original design I added some of the color from the deck. It will also be printed in a vintage long tongue tuck box and wrapped in a custom paper wrap. Sealed with individually numbered stamps. This deck comes with a stainless steel Ace of spades numbered cert.

3. The Original Release: This deck is done as closely to the original 2 piece box as we can do it. The back of the box is blank, there is a stamp on the inside of the box that is individually numbered and a number stamp seal on the back of the deck as well. This deck comes with a brass numbered metal ace of spades cert.

Funded as a Kickstarter project on September 12, 2014 with $23,517 pledged from 272 backers, this was a 5 deck set. Produced by Michael Scott and Home Run Games, these decks are based on Victor E. Mauger\\\\\\\'s 1876 The Centennial Exposition Deck which commemorated the world fair in Philadelphia & the declaration of Independence. The 5 deck set included USPCC Standard (Blue Back), USPCC Limited (1,000 copies - Blue Back), Mauger Replica (Red Back), Mauger Limited (1,000 copies - Red Back), Mauger Original Release Limited (500 copies - Red Back). This PCDB Entry is for the USPCC Standard (Blue Back) deck. 1863 Patent National Playing Cards Authentic reproduction of a Civil War playing card deck by Lawrence, Cohen & Co. with full-length, single-ended court figures and square corners. Box features facsimile of original paper wrapper and cancelled tax stamp. Cards have unusual double-ended patriotic back design. Deck comprises 52 cards plus a conventional extra Ace of Spades and two information cards. The poker size playing cards are brand new and sealed in cello wrap but the outer box is not sealed and may show light wear. Published by US Games Systems and printed in Italy.

After having created several modern original decks of playing cards I have recently been inspired from playing cards from the past. And in this campaign I will present you 2 of my favorites; the Vanity and Faro. Both of these deck were originally produced in the late 19th century. The Vanity deck is based off of the famous "Vanity Fair" transformation deck copyrighted in 1895. The Faro deck is based off of the Russel & Morgan Squared Faro first printed in 1887. The Faro deck was supplied to casinos for the game of faro and is more of a "workers" deck while the Vanity deck would be considered more of a "novelty" deck. Vanity Fair Transformation Playing Cards No.41, published by the United States Playing Card Company, 1895, 53 cards in box. All the number cards have been imaginatively transformed and the court cards have been modified. This is USPCC's first true transformation deck and like the 1879 transformation deck 'Tiffany Harlequin', which likely prompted USPCC to finally make a true transformation deck (slightly earlier Hustling Joe wasn't a true transformation), it also has comical court figures. This is the rarer of two packs of playing cards published by Thomas Bowles dealing with the financial scandals and faulty projects epitomised by the bursting of the South Sea Bubble. Only three complete original sets are known. An advertisement appearing in Mist\'s Weekly Journal in December 1720 for \"Bubble cards … tricks of Stock Jobbers … Humours of Change Alley\"" probably refers to the present pack. The cards provide a unique contemporary record of\' the feverish activities of traders in stock.

This is the rarer of two packs of playing cards published by Thomas Bowles dealing with the financial scandals and faulty projects epitomised by the bursting of the South Sea Bubble. An advertisement appearing in Mist's Weekly Journal in December 1720 for "Bubble cards … tricks of Stock Jobbers … Humours of Change Alley" probably refers to the present pack. The cards, in fact, provide a unique contemporary record of' the feverish activities of traders in stock, by depicting in cartoon form a series of domestic situations which, although doubtless somewhat exaggerated, represented the atmosphere of the time. Extensive rise is made of the balloon technique for reporting the speech of those portrayed and each card has a pithy, not to say in several instances coarse, verse describing the situation. The cards offer not only a marvellous record of' fashions of dress of the period but also commentary upon those who were tempted and fell as a result of the apparent gold rush - cobblers, reverends, lawyers, "a Brisk Young Gentleman", Jews, Dutch, French, jobbers, doctors and so on. The difference that wealth made to the marriage market is dwelt upon at length: and one of' the many interesting sidelights on history disclosed by this pack (of which at present only three complete sets are known) is that the status symbol most generally craved by the newly rich was as now a vehicle of transport; at that time a coach.  The kindness of Miss Sylvia Mann in permitting her pack of cards to be reproduced is acknowledged with grateful thanks.

From 1970s, this is a deck of playing cards made in France by Editions J.C. Dusserre, Maitres-Cartiers Boechat Freres. The cards are a reproduction of a set of cards made in 1493 by master cardmaker Jehan Personne in Lyons France. This set had been reconstituted and published from the original of a moulding sheet conserved in the Public Library of Dijon.

LA-TEE-DA Transformation Playing Cards are a reproduction of the original antique cards that were published in 1865 by Dean & Sons.

Replica of the 1540 deck by Peter Flötner as created by Rose & Pentagram Design in 2011. This deck was created in Germany and is nicknamed the poop deck by some historical hobbyists due to the content of some of the satirical cards which make fun of the bourgeois way of life. It includes several satirical images such a monk vomiting, scenes of farting, spanking and excrement. This 48 card deck used traditional German suits as well as unter and uber figures rather than jacks and queens, and omits aces. It was likely used for the lower class trick taking game Karnoffel which explains the images shown.
