Manufactured by USPCC, this unbranded deck reportedly was in development for 5 years with 3 designers working together before Ellusionist released it in 2009 as the first in their new line of signature playing cards. This is the white version of the Arcane deck, but there was also a black version, as well as a rare red and gold ones (variations of the black). The deck was designed for magic and cardistry use by the use of the unique back design and custom jokers plus gaff card, in addition to standard game play. Many may consider the unique jokers the most interesting component from a collector perspective. The courts feature variations of standard courts with modified outfits and smokey/faded look. Born from a long forgotten prototyped sheet, the Red Arcane deck was produced to bring a little extra colour to the regular Ellusionist Holiday Giveaway. When Ellusionist released the Red Arcane sheets at the beginning of 2013, their Facebook page and Email boxes were inundated with comments begging for the red deck to be made. Not ones to ignore the voices of their customers - so Ellusionist set out to manufacture this limited edition deck and it was originally only given away free to Black Club members as a surprise bonus - then made available exclusively in their 2013 Holiday Giveaway. The Arcane Red Edition is now a Very Rare collectable deck, no more Red Arcane decks will ever be printed again.

“Middle Kingdom” was used to refer to civilizations around the Yellow River Valley before the empires leading to modern-day China began to form. The two characters in the ideogram for China, 中国, are part of those for Middle Kingdom, 中央王国, so the reference has stood the test of time. The court cards use exquisitely detailed line art of Chinese deities and people, while the card back is a great freehand drawing with interpretations of Chinese lattice borders and, of course, a dragon.

This deck was inspired by traditional Russian wood painting style and national ornament - Khokhloma. Khokhloma known for it's vivid flower patterns, red and gold colors over a black background. It first appeared in the second half of the 17th century in what is today known as the Koverninsky District of the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. The handicraft was named Khokhloma after a trade settlement in the same oblast, where craftsmen had been known for making and selling their handmade goods between the 18th and early 20th centuries. The main colors used in Khokhloma painting – gold, black and red. Sometimes these colors are complemented with green, brown, orange, yellow. Motifs used in painting are mainly natural: it is grass, flowers, berries and birds.

Per direct communication with the artist, there were 14,002 total decks manufactured (7,093 Light, 6,909 Dark). Of these, 4,200 of each color received an official numbered and signed backer card.
