Canada / Ontario / Windsor / Windsor, Ontario / Mercer Avenue, 1125
family wholesale fruit and vegetable business established in 1973 and relocated to the present site in 1994.
International Playing Card
The building was built in 1928 for the International Playing Card Company, a branch of United States Playing Card Company of Cincinnati, Ohio and producer of Bicycle, Hoyle, Aviator, Aristocrat and Bee Club playing cards.
International Playing Card was established in Windsor in 1914 to distribute U.S. Playing Card products to Canada. After enjoying considerable sales success the new plant was built to manufacture cards in Canada. The plant operated from 1928 to 1991 when all production in Canada ceased. International Playing Card still maintains a sales and marketing office in Markham, Ontario.
The building has been designated a heritage property by the City of Windsor and as of 2019, is now in the process of being converted into a high school.
