Humans are naturally afraid of the dark. Faintly visible shapes can sometimes be seen in the dark, and those shapes can evolve into something more bizarre in the imagination of the observer. ‘The Night Parade’ features images depicting creations of monsters that can be found in the most insidious dark corners.

The Japanese Yokai playing card deck contains a total of 54 cards and they are the same size as the cards in a standard playing card deck. All of the images on the cards in this deck are original works of art depicting different yokai.

All of the cards are 2.5" x 3.5" in size, coated with a linen texture on 350gsm (thickness) art paper, and finished with rounded corners.

Created as a pair of decks for a KickStarter project (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/iws/hanami-hanafuda-and-poker-playing-cards-and-rulebo). The primary deck is in the format of Hanafuda (known in Korea as 'Hwatu') are floral-themed playing cards that are rich in symbolism and popular in Japan, Korea, and Hawaii. Hanafuda cards have 12 suits. Each suit is represented by a month (e.g. June) of the year and each month is represented by a flower (e.g. Peony). Hanafuda are typically smaller and thicker than Western playing cards, however, the Hanami Hanafuda deck uses standard poker-sized cards. Each month of the Hanami Hanafuda deck is designed to form a tetraptych.
