This deck is inspired by the first half of our Love & Retribution story, set in Victorian England, in which Sarah and Henry meet and fall in love against all odds and to the disapproval and contempt of Sarah's father, landowner George Fairhurst. The deck is illustrated throughout with painstaking hand-drawn characters and details and features fully custom artwork and design elements at every turn, while maintaining the roots of a classic deck of playing cards every bit as functional as it is pleasant on the eye.
A nod to classic British playing cards of the era: a crisp monotone back design in regal red and white featuring an illustration of Sarah set against elements taken from the gardens of Fairhurst Manor: a timeless, elegant back.
The court cards are painstakingly drawn as the characters who reside in and around Fairhurst Manor in 1800s Lancashire, and have been drawn in such a way as to reflect the posing of classic, standard court cards of the English pattern. This deck features a decorated Ace of Hearts, not Ace of Spades, as is normally found.
The Jokers in each deck tell a story. When placed side-by-side, the Jokers from each deck form a diptych depicting a scene from the book. Deck one shows a horse-drawn carriage pulling up outside Fairhurst Manor at night.
