The classic era of KEM playing cards ran from the early 1930s until 2004. Manufactured of cellulose-acetate plastic in New York, and featuring many card back designs, the cards have a unique feel and a storied history. The vintage decks are fun to collect not only for the cards but also the various cases of bakelite and plastic. Most players and collectors agree that the 2006 reintroduction of KEM cards as a USPCC brand marked a decrease in quality and interest, if for no other reason than the drastic reduction in design choices. My single Florentine deck in red, white and blue was manufactured in September 1962 and is in the flat black plastic two-piece box. The Florentine back is a pleasant two-way design that does not seem dated 60 years later.
