Vintage Avon playing cards from the 1930s by Russell Playing Card Co. New York U.S.A.

Hochman tells us: US1 TIGERS #101, R&M, 1881 was Russell & Morgan's first brand. It was the least expensive deck presented as part of their opening line and had a generic R&M Ace of Spades (one without the Tiger name). A tiger head in a circle with the suit signs in smaller circles, printed in red and black, adorned the joker This deck was probably printed sometime between 1881 and 1885 as Hochman dates this AoS as being used during that period. A different joker was being used by 1891 (or earlier) It is not possible to precisely date any deck by its name alone because new Aces of Spades were not always designed when the company name was changed. For example, there is no known Tigers #101 Ace with the Russell & Morgan 'Printing' name on it, even though such an Ace was in use between 1891 to 1894 on their brands and Tigers were available throughout that whole period. After at least 140 years this tuck has lost its top flaps. This deck was most generously gifted to me by Jackson Robinson whose KWP reimagined Tiger decks are well known Tigers #101 were produced until about 1930 and five different Aces and three Jokers were used.
