ABOUT THIS DECK
Under DarkRoom is a cardistry brand from China established by cardists Peter Chien and Du Yue. For their first ever deck of playing cards designed by cardistry, Under DarkRoom presents Film Playing Cards.
Film Playing Cards, as its name, is inspired from a camera's film roll. The tuck box is a custom double-layer box: the outer box is a deck sleeve, fashioned to look like a packaging layer of a film roll, complete with a perforated pull tab to open the box sleeve. The inner box is the main tuck box, black matte box with black foil running across the box, in shape of a film strip.
The cards design continues the theme. The card back is designed as strip segements of a film roll: white bordered with a card numbering which makes it a subtle one-way back. The faces of the cards are designed like negatives imprinted onto the film that resembles Numbers, Aces, and Courts. While the faces lack indices, the numbering can tell what card it is according to a New Deck Order. The Jokers complete the theme of the deck: one card is showing the small pull strip of a film roll, the other is a plastic card showing the title of the deck.
The deck is printed by USPCC, the cards feature metallic ink on the back. Released in 2023.
