ABOUT THIS DECK

We have designed four true Queens of Magic from the late 1800’s for our Magical Women Playing Card Deck including: Adelaide Herrmann (1853-1932) – Queen of Hearts – is the undisputed Queen of Magic. Adelaide starred in her own magic productions dominating the Victorian Era as a magic star and celebrity on stages in notable theatres in Europe and North America. She performed grand illusion and manipulation stage magic performing into her seventies as “The Most Important Female Magician of All Time.” Mercedes Talma (1868-1944) – Queen of Diamonds - Talma was very accomplished at performing sleight of hand and manipulation acts, especially coin manipulation and she was often billed as "The Queen of Coins". She performed for over thirty years and was reputed to produce thirty coins from her tiny hands. In addition to her solo performances, she was a valued member of the trio LeRoy, Talma and Bosco and the first levitating lady in the Asrah Levitation. Minerva (1877-unknown) – Queen of Clubs – is the undisputed Queen of Handcuffs. Minerva was an escape artist whose skill and successes challenged and threatened the great Houdini. Renowned for her water-filled-bondage-underwater escape, she was a publicity favorite. Her story and reputation for defending her rights are legendary at a time when women had very few independent privileges and freedoms. Anna Eva Fay (1851-1927) – Queen of Spades – the Queen of the Spiritual and Seance World. Anna Eva Fay became one of the highest-paid mind readers in the world. Her charismatic shows used theatrics and inventive, visual magic that was ahead of its time. She tricked the renowned scientist William Crookes into believing she had real psychic powers (1875.) Anna dazzled audiences into her seventies and was the first Honorary Lady Associate of the Magic Circle (1913) Connie Boyd– Joker – As the creator of the Magical Women Project Connie has aimed a bright spotlight on her fellow female magicians past and present. Her goal is to correct the omissions in magic’s historical timeline and contribute to the magical arts that she has a deep passion for.
